I’ve used Linux in one form or other since 1994.
The first version of Linux I ever used was Slackware v 1.1.2. When Red Hat 0.9 (Halloween) came out, I tried it, but stuck with Slackware. I kept an eye on Red Hat, and as each version came out, I’d try it out. When Red Hat 3.0.3 (Picasso) was released, I finally felt comfortable enough with the distribution to use it (in a limited fashion) on production systems.
Other distributions I’ve tried: Debian, Knoppix, Ubuntu, Suse, Mandrake, CentOS, Fedora, Yellow Dog, and Gentoo.
Hardware platforms I’ve run Linux on:
- Intel/AMD (386 up to current processors)
- PowerPC
- Sparc
- Alpha
Operating systems other than Linux I have worked with:
- DOS
- CP/M
- GEM
- VMS
- Solaris
- FreeBSD
- OpenBSD
- NetBSD (<- Got a Vaxstation someone was getting rid of and wanted to see if I could get it running.)
- AIX
- HP.UX
- OS X
- Tru64
- SCO
- BeOS
- Plan 9
- Windows (2.0 -> current)
To be continued…
